It’s common that you may be swiping on Tinder, close the app, and then it asks you to verify your photo.
This is common practice, as most dating apps nowadays require you to verify yourself to ensure you’re a real person and not a bot.
However, when you go to verify yourself this time, you will notice that your screen is stuck in a waiting screen that says, “Your selfie is under review.”
In this article, we’re going to help you fix this issue and hopefully help your try to restore your account.
Your Selfie Is Under Review

This automatic photo verification will trigger when the system detects that you are spamming the system, using inappropriate pictures or talking inappropriate to someone.
Remember, the system is automated, so it can make mistakes. If you were doing any of the above, Tinder may have flagged your profile and will require you to verify your profile.
The reason Tinder wants to verify your selfie is to compare it to the pictures that you uploaded.
Once the facial identification is complete, it will then unlock your profile and you will be able to access it again.
How To Unlock Your Profile
There are a few ways to unlock your profile and gain access to Tinder if “Your Selfie is Under Review” pops up, along with the text “Once the review is complete, we’ll unlock your account and reinstate your profile.
Wait For The Verification
When your profile is flagged, Tinder will review it to ensure that it aligns with the other pictures you have uploaded.
Once it completes its verification, it will either unlock your profile, or it will ban it.
The only negative thing about waiting for your verification is that you never know when it will get unlocked. Tinder gives you no time frame and just expects you to wait while its backend goes to work.
If you’re in a deep conversation with one or two people, your profile will be put on hold, and you will not be able to talk to them.
I had to wait 3 days before I got fed up. This brings me to my next point…
Contact Tinder Directly
I found this solution by searching on Reddit and seeing that a user contacted Tinder directly to get their account unbanned.
Here are the steps I took…
First, go to Tinder.com.
Scroll all the way to the bottom until you see contact in the footer (all the way to the right). It will look like this:

Next, you’ll want to click the “Contact Us” option that’s at the top of the page. You can see the link in the bottom left hand side of the picture below.

Next, you want to fill out the form so it matches exactly what’s going on with your profile.
For example, here is how we filled out ours:

We selected that a Tinder feature wasn’t working. You will then be prompted to add your email address and phone number associated with the account. It is important that you add the real accounts on both so Tinder can verify you.
This allowed us to highlight that the photo verification wasn’t working.
Create a description of what happened to you and then hit send. You should hear back from Tinder within 24 hours and your account should be unlocked if the system made a mistake.
If the system did not make a mistake, prepare yourself that you could permanently lose your account.
This, of course, is up to Tinder, and they have the final say.

This Reddit user said that she was able to recover her profile after 12 hours of submitting the form to Tinder.
While it’s frustrating, you must be patient for Tinder to get the correct ruling.
Next Steps
If your Tinder profile prompts a message that your selfie is under review, you will have to wait patiently until it’s unlocked, or you can contact Tinder directly.
