Online dating is a new normal. There was a time where people would be shy to admit that they use online dating services. However, that has changed, and pretty much almost every person that is single uses them today. That brings us to eHarmony and Match.com, two of the oldest in the game. Let’s see which of these two is the best.

eHarmony is better than Match.com when it comes to the user experience both on the web and mobile app. eHarmony has a cleaner user interface. The matchmaking process of eHarmony is what really sets it apart from Match.com. eHarmony boasts the most successful matchmaking of all online dating sites.

In this article, we are going to compare Match.com and eHarmony. When comparing 2 products or services like these 2, we need to start with the user experience.

In this article, we will cover everything that you need to know, from the sign-up process to cost. So, before you decide which to use, keep reading.

eHarmony Vs Match.com

Ease Of Use

eHarmony is the clear winner when it comes to ease of use. This is because the site does not rely on gimmicks and distractions. Instead, all matchmaking is done in the background based on your profile, so all you see are potential matches.

Navigating the menu, tabs, and profiles on eHarmony is a lot easier than on Match.com, at least in our experience. eHarmony does a great job of presenting your options to you in a clear and easy-to-understand fashion.

Layout

eHarmony has a simple layout. This, in fact, contributes to its ease of use. When looking at the layout of eHarmony, you will notice that everything is where it should be. There is very little clutter.

Match.com has a layout that feels more congested. I like to think of it as a “look at everything you can do” kind of layout, and as we have seen in recent times, people tend to prefer a more simple and material design when it comes to browsing the web.

eHarmony wins this section.

Usability

Match.com is most definitely more fun to use. The site wants you to come back, and it almost feels like a conventional social media platform at times. This is especially true when you click on people’s profiles.  You can get lost for hours on Match.com.

On Match.com, you can apply so many filters to your searches that it almost becomes like building the perfect person for you. You can then swap and change filters to see the different results.

Match.com has one particular feature that really stands out and should be applauded for its innovation. This feature is called “reverse matches.” It just shows you who you are not compatible with. Why not strike up a conversation with someone you are not compatible with and see if opposites really do attract?

eHarmony, while also having a few unique features such as its “video date,” feels lackluster compared to Match.com. Once you have signed up, eHarmony does all the heavy lifting for you. This is not ultimately bad because they have the most successful track record in matching people up with successful dates.

Sign-up Process

Because both Match.com and eHarmony have an easy-to-follow sign-up process, Match.com wins this round because signing up to Match.com is a lot quicker than signing up to eHarmony.

Both are easy as the signup process is guided when it comes to signing up to either eHarmony or Match.com. This means that everything is easy to understand and follow.

Signing up for Match.com takes an average of 20 minutes, while eHarmony takes much longer. You can expect the signup process for eHarmony to take anywhere between 45 minutes to 1 hour.

While it may seem like a long time, it is important to remember that both of these dating sites want to match you up with the best possible match.com.

Best Mobile App

Both dating sites have done a great job of porting their services to mobile devices via mobile apps. However, the minimalist design and easy-to-use interface make eHarmony the winner here.

Other than that, both services offer the full experience on mobile with all the regular features you find on their websites.

You can download either site to both Android and IOS.

Pricing

I understand that the services’ cost can significantly impact the decision of many potential users as to whether or not they use the service. In this section, we plan to show you the current prices for both of these dating services.

eHarmony costs between $36.00 and $66.00. The longer you sign up, the cheaper it costs.

Match.com costs between $18.00 and $36.00. The longer you sign up, the cheaper it costs.

Best For Free Users

On eHarmony, you can get unlimited matches for free. You can also send icebreakers, smiles, and even respond to a first message, all for free. You basically get the full service without the ability to send the first message, and in my experience, that is quite generous.

On Match.com, you have a limited amount of features when it comes to the actual matches. However, after that, they are very generous with their free package. You can create a profile as you would if you were a paid member, and then you can communicate directly with your matches.

If you are going to remain a free member, Match.com might be a better option. With that being said, you will have a very restricted experience in finding a match. It is only once you find that match that things become better to be a free member.

If there is one thing, I dislike when reading articles like these, people are vague about why they say something is better than something else. We are not going to do that. In fact, I am going to give you four specific reasons why eHarmony is better than Match.com.

  • eHarmony has more members than Match.com.
  • eHarmony has a higher success rate than Match.com.
  • eHarmony has a low divorce rate.

Right now, let’s take a look at these in more detail.

eHarmony Has More Members Than Match.com

According to the last count, eHarmony had approximately 29 million members, while Match.com had 21.5 million members. That is a significant difference.

So one argument you might have is, “How many of those members are active”? That is a fair question. However, the problem is that you have to apply that logic to both dating services. So, if you say at least 20% of the members are not active, the same would go for both services, right?

Having more members should open you up to a lot more possible partners. Well, not really, and this is another thing that sets eHarmony apart from the rest, and we will get into that later in this article in our “The process of elimination” section.

More People Get Married Via eHarmony Than Match.com

This is where eHarmony starts to move ahead of its competition at a rapid rate. We have already established that the users on eHarmony are more serious than they are on Match.com, which can be seen in the success rate of eHarmony.

Approximately 430 people get married in the USA every single day via harmony. That is a staggering number, and if you multiply that by 365 days, you get over 150,000 people getting married every year via the service.

On the other hand, you have Match.com. Remember we said that you would find a lot more people who are serious about eHarmony? Well, approximately  12 people get married via much every day. That is a significantly lower number than eHarmony.

eHarmony Has The Lowest Divorce Rate Of Any Online Dating Service

Now, the data for Match.com is not very clear at this moment. However, we have data from eHarmony, and it claims that they have the lowest divorce rate out of all the dating services.

The divorce rate for eHarmony is low, and I like to think that this is because, first of all, the people on that service are looking for serious relationships already. However, I think their matching system does most of the work and matches people who stay happy due to having similar interests.

So, we all know that the purpose of dating services is to make dating easier, and finding people we are interested in should take a lot quicker. However, it is not working like that.

The more choices that we have, the harder it becomes to choose. We are forced to become pickier and often overwhelmed by choice. It tends to make us more judgmental of our potential partners. This means that we miss a lot of people who would otherwise be a perfect match. That is where eHarmony is different.

Because it has such a large number of members, eHarmony can eliminate people who have nothing in common with us, proving to lead to successful dates that end up in marriages with a very low percentage of divorce.

Summary

Basically, I would like to summarize the things discussed in this article by drawing up a table where we compare the two dating services against each other.

The purpose of this table is to give you all the information in a compact way to decide which one you are leaning towards. Also, remember to bookmark this page to keep this table as a reference.
